Ajarn Ae has an incredible local origin story: he never formally studied Sak Yant, but after surviving a near-fatal accident, he woke up with the sudden, flawless ability to write and etch sacred Yantra scripts correctly.

For those seeking the ultimate authentic experience, we head outside Bangkok to Nakhon Pathom—the birthplace of Sak Yant tradition: Wat Bang Phra. Luang Pi Nan (Phra Khru Anan Abhinanto) is one of the very few authentic Buddhist monks remaining in Thailand who still bestows Sak Yant upon all who seek his compassion.
The Vibe: Raw, authentic temple sacredness.
The Experience: Getting tattooed by a practicing monk following 100% Buddhist precepts is unforgettable. The offering fee is shockingly low (under $4 USD total), though advance booking is required as people travel from all over the world to see him.
A Personal Note: As mentioned, I was fortunate to receive an oil tattoo from Luang Pi Nan early on. Today, he no longer bestows tattoos on women, making that experience a deeply cherished memory.
2026 Update: Traditional monk-administered Sak Yant is becoming exceedingly rare. As of 2026, there are only two monks remaining at Wat Bang Phra who still bestow Sak Yant blessings.
